Where Patrick lived in Ireland and indeed whether he was actually Irish (could have been English) were both questions we didn’t have an answer to until recently. Two things happened to narrow our search: firstly we had our YDNA tested which confirmed we were Irish (Dal gCais – L226) and secondly thanks to the National Library of Ireland we found Patrick and Mary’s wedding registration. This registration puts them in New Quay. This makes sense as we know through shipping records that Mary’s brothers came form Carron and we could safely assume that Mary did also. Carron is the next Parish south of New Quay.
