Emotions and the Heart

Humans have known for thousands of years that the heart is more than just a pump that has to be keep in good order. Hence sayings such as the following came into existence:

A bleeding heart, a change of heart, a heart of gold, a heart of stone, a heart-to-heart, a man after my own heart, absence makes the heart grow fonder,
aching heart, after my own heart, at heart, bleeding heart, chicken-hearted, close to your heart, cross my heart, die of a broken heart, do your heart good, eat your heart out, emptier than a banker’s heart, faint heart never won fair lady, faint of heart, find it in your heart, follow your heart, from the bottom of my heart, from the heart and half-hearted.

We now know that the  heart is a powerhouse of energy, has enough neurons to be classified as a  brain and creates hormones.  So not only do we need to look after our heart physically but also emotionally to keep it in good working order.
